It is especially through objects drawn from popular culture that NOVUM aims to diffuse its concepts. One of our studio’s project is based on the reinterpretation of a product usually meant for decoration: the aquarium. Dedicated, just like architecture, to the dwelling of living organisms, it had at its origins also a scientific purpose. This duality, switching between the serious domain of science and the entertainment of contemplating small worlds, incited us to use this object as a support to create alternative universes. Inspired by the aesthetics of coral reefs, NOVUM recreates fantasized landscapes consisting of architecture projects from the XXth and XXIst centuries. These buildings are brought back to their essence and intertwined one into another, creating architectonic sculptures or totems of the built icons that fascinate architects so much. Completely submerged in water, they are also inhabited and appropriated, this time by aquatic beings.
